Washers & Lock Washers
Form A Washers:
- Outer Diameter: Form A washers typically have a larger outer diameter compared to some other types of washers. This larger diameter helps distribute the load over a wider area, which can be beneficial in many applications.
- Thickness: These washers have a standard thickness, providing a balance between strength and flexibility. They are thicker than Form B washers.
- Material: Commonly made from materials such as stainless steel, brass, or mild steel, which offer varying levels of corrosion resistance and strength.
- Uses: Form A washers are widely used in construction, automotive, and machinery applications. Their larger diameter and standard thickness make them suitable for general-purpose use, providing good load distribution and surface protection.
Form B Washers:
- Outer Diameter: The outer diameter of Form B washers is the same as that of Form A washers.
- Thickness: Form B washers are thinner than Form A washers. This reduced thickness makes them useful in applications where space is limited or where a thinner washer is needed to fit between components.
- Material: Like Form A washers, Form B washers can also be made from stainless steel, brass, mild steel, and other materials to suit different environmental conditions and requirements.
Uses: Form B washers are often used in applications where the load distribution and surface protection provided by a washer are needed, but the space available is too tight for a thicker washer. They are ideal for use in delicate assemblies, electronics, and other precise engineering applications.
Types of Spring Washers:
- Helical Spring Washers (Split Washers): These are the most common type, featuring a single split and twisted shape that provides a locking action.
- Wave Washers: These have a wavy shape that provides a spring-like cushioning effect and helps maintain tension.
- Belleville Washers (Conical Spring Washers): These are conical-shaped washers that provide high spring tension in a small space and are often used in high-load applications.
